A commitment to the REACH initiativ to prevent chemical risks
Within the framework of the European REACH (Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation Chemicals) regulation, which aims to prevent chemical risks, our Group works closely with its suppliers to ensure the safe manufacture and use of chemical substances. The aim of this approach is to protect the health and safety of users by providing clear and accessible information in Safety Data Sheets (SDS) that can be consulted online at www.quickfds.com.These SDSs enable users and customers to consult all the necessary information for the use of hazardous materials and products and the changes in their composition or in the recommendation for use.
Regulation 1907/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council of the European Union, adopted on 18 December 2006, concerning the Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals ( REACH), took effect on 1 June 2007.
As a Community regulation, REACH applies identically in each Member State, without any transposition laws. Its main objective is to improve levels of health and environmental protection, while strengthening competitive performance and innovation in the European Union.
Since the Directive came into effect, new obligations apply on a European scale to producers, importers, distributors and downstream users of substances, preparations or articles.
Our status as a “Distributor” required us to question our suppliers on their compliance with their obligations under the REACH regulation:
1. Pre-registration and registration
Our suppliers, and their subcontractors, comply with any pre-registration or registration obligations for substances covered by the REACH regulation. So far, we have not seen any evidence to the contrary regarding their compliance.
2. Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC), and sustainability of supply
The REACH regulation provides for the identification of certain Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) in a list of substances that are candidates for authorisation. This “candidate list” is published on the website of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) and is subject to regular change:
> See the ECHA website: List of Candidate substances for authorization
Consequently, provided that the 3 following conditions are met simultaneously:
The sale of the product may be subject to the authorization by a commission.
In order to make sure that our customers have long-term supplies and to anticipate possible production stoppages, we regularly consult all our suppliers. To date, several suppliers have informed us of the presence of substances on the candidate list in some of their products:
> Download the list of articles with SVHC substances
This list is updated according to the changes to the list of candidate substances and the information provided by our suppliers. You are invited to consult it regularly.
